idus : craftlab

idus : craftlab is the workshop and office of Idus, Korea's leading marketplace for handmade goods and independent designers, occupying a 400 sqm floor in Seogyo-dong, the Hongdae district of Seoul. The project translates the spirit of craftsmanship into the architecture of work itself — the building's primary purpose is not to host meetings or process tasks, but to support the slow, attentive practice of making.

The material palette favors quiet practicality over visual statement. Paint and linoleum form a forgiving ground for the unpredictability of hands-on work; laminated glass introduces transparency between concentration and collaboration; noise-free coatings and carpet absorb the acoustic textures of a working environment, allowing focus to remain undisturbed at each desk and worktable.

Across 400 sqm, the plan deliberately interleaves the typologies of office and workshop — long open tables for design work coexist with material storage, prototype zones, and quiet meeting alcoves. The result resists the binary between creative making and corporate work, constructing instead a coherent environment for designers who treat their craft as their profession.

idus : craftlab은 한국의 대표 핸드메이드 마켓플레이스이자 독립 디자이너 플랫폼인 '아이디어스'의 공방 겸 사무실입니다. 서울 마포구 서교동, 홍대 권역 400sqm의 공간에서 진행된 이 프로젝트는 장인정신의 본질을 업무 공간 그 자체의 건축으로 번역하였습니다. 회의나 사무 처리가 아닌, 천천히 그리고 정성스럽게 무언가를 만드는 행위가 공간의 주인공이 됩니다.

물성은 시각적 주장보다 조용한 실용성을 선택합니다. 페인트와 리놀륨은 손작업의 예측 불가능함을 너그럽게 받아들이는 바닥이 되고, 라미네이트 글래스는 집중과 협업 사이에 적절한 투명함을 부여합니다. 노이즈 프리 코트와 카펫은 작업 환경의 작은 소리들을 흡수하여, 집중이 각 책상과 작업대 위에서 깨지지 않도록 합니다.

공간은 사무실과 공방의 유형을 의도적으로 섞습니다. 디자인 작업을 위한 긴 오픈 테이블이 자재 보관 공간, 프로토타입 영역, 조용한 회의 알코브와 공존합니다. 그 결과로 공간은 창작과 사무라는 이분법에 저항하며, 자신의 공예를 직업으로 다루는 디자이너들을 위한 일관된 환경을 구축합니다.
