Blanc

Blanc is a small cafe on the autumn lane of Myeongni-danni in Gangdong-gu, where four streets carry the names of the four seasons. It serves western desserts reinterpreted through a Korean sensibility — and the brand sits, by design, in the contrast between two traditions.

The space follows the same logic. A grid pattern runs across the terrazzo floor and reappears in the wood paneling on the walls: a single repeating gesture that holds the room together. The wood is finished by hand in a traditional manner, so that texture and tone do most of the warming. The furniture is built and finished the same way, so the seating reads as an extension of the walls rather than as objects placed against them.

At the center of the room hangs a curtain — woven thin in a traditional manner, light enough to let daylight pass through and to move with whatever air the room is breathing. Sunlight enters the window, lands on a low pool of water, and projects a slow ripple across the room that shifts with the hour. A bench frames a small garden of stone and sand with a straw cushion resting on top — a quiet borrowing from Korean craft, made plain through material rather than ornament.

Blanc is, in the end, a place to slow down — a smaller, warmer interior held inside a cold and fast city.

블랑은 강동구 명리단길의 가을길에 자리한 작은 카페입니다. 명리단길의 네 거리는 봄·여름·가을·겨울의 이름을 나누어 가지고 있고, 블랑은 그중 가을의 길에 있습니다. 서양식 디저트를 한국적인 감각으로 재해석한 수제 디저트를 중심에 두고, 동양과 서양 두 결이 만나는 자리에서 브랜드를 만들어갑니다.

공간 또한 같은 방식으로 짜여 있습니다. 테라조 바닥에 격자무늬가 흐르고, 같은 무늬가 벽면 목재 패널 위로 한 번 더 반복됩니다. 목재는 전통적인 방식으로 손으로 마감되어 색과 결만으로 공간에 따뜻함을 더하고, 가구도 같은 손길로 만들어져 벽면과 분리된 사물이 아닌 벽의 연장처럼 자리합니다.

공간 중앙에는 커튼이 드리워져 있습니다. 전통적인 방식으로 얇게 짠 천이라 빛은 부드럽게 통과하고, 실내의 미세한 공기 흐름에 따라 천이 흔들립니다. 창을 통해 들어온 빛은 아래의 수조에 닿아 일렁이는 물결을 공간에 그려 넣고, 그 물결은 시간의 흐름에 따라 모양을 바꿉니다. 한쪽 벤치에는 돌과 모래로 만든 작은 정원이 놓이고, 그 위 짚 방석이 한국적인 미감을 소박하게 드러냅니다.

블랑은 결국 잠시 속도를 늦추기 위한 자리입니다. 차갑고 빠른 도심 한가운데에 잘라내어 둔, 더 잔잔하고 따뜻한 작은 공간.
