Café O'Fete

Café O'Fete is a 390 sqm café located near Konkuk University in Hwayang-dong, Seoul — one of the city's most densely energetic university districts. The project sets itself a quiet question: how does a large café in the middle of urban density still offer a moment of calm? The answer is composed not by retreating from the city, but by introducing a different speed within it.

The material palette is unusually tactile for a café of this scale. Concrete and paint set the architectural baseline; wood stain and stone powder add warmth and grain; and most distinctively, linen string is woven into the space as a textile element that softens hard surfaces and absorbs both light and the small ambient sounds of a busy room. Linen — traditionally a domestic and handcrafted material — brings into a 390 sqm urban café the quietness of a smaller, slower interior.

O'Fete is, in essence, a project about scale and softness — about how a large public space can still feel personal, and how the textures of a calmer life can be borrowed into the rhythm of the city.

카페 오페뜨는 서울의 가장 에너지 밀집된 대학가 중 하나인 광진구 화양동, 건국대 인근에 자리한 390sqm 규모의 카페입니다. 이 프로젝트는 스스로에게 조용한 질문 하나를 던집니다 — 도시의 밀도 한가운데에 있는 큰 카페가 어떻게 여전히 고요의 순간을 제공할 수 있는가. 답은 도시로부터 물러서는 것이 아니라, 그 안에 다른 속도를 도입하는 방식으로 구성됩니다.

물성은 이 규모의 카페치고는 비범하게 촉각적입니다. 콘크리트와 페인트가 건축적 베이스라인을 설정하고, 우드 스테인과 스톤 파우더가 따뜻함과 결을 더합니다. 그리고 가장 특징적으로, 린넨 스트링이 텍스타일 요소로 공간 안에 직조되어 단단한 표면을 부드럽게 하고, 빛과 분주한 방의 작은 소리들을 함께 흡수합니다. 전통적으로 가정적이고 수공예적인 재료인 린넨은, 390sqm의 도시형 카페 안으로 더 작고 더 느린 인테리어의 고요함을 가져옵니다.
