Segabang

Segabang is a 98 sqm pop-up bookstore in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, designed as a temporary tribute to the form of the bookstore itself — to every small bookstore that has ever existed, anywhere. Rather than designing a singular branded space, the project assembles the spatial vocabulary that bookstores everywhere quietly share: low partitions, intimate reading corners, the closeness of paper and timber, the way a single light can fall on a single open page.

The material palette is reduced to two elements only — plywood and wood stain. This restraint is the project's argument: a bookstore is, in essence, a room in which the materiality of books themselves should hold visual weight. Plywood partitions create a series of small, semi-enclosed reading rooms within the larger space; wood-stained timber warms the surfaces that the visitor's hand will actually touch. Everything else withdraws.

Segabang is, in essence, a project about typology — about what a bookstore is, stripped of brand and ornament — and about the quiet act of paying homage, in a single Seongsu-dong room, to a form that exists everywhere.

세가방은 서울 성수동에 자리한 98sqm의 팝업 서점입니다. 이 프로젝트는 서점이라는 형식 그 자체에 대한 - 세상 어디에든 존재해 온 모든 작은 서점에 대한 - 일시적인 헌사로 디자인되었습니다. 단일한 브랜드 공간을 디자인하는 대신, 이 프로젝트는 세상의 서점들이 조용히 공유하는 공간 어휘를 모아냅니다 - 낮은 파티션, 친밀한 읽기의 코너, 종이와 목재의 가까움, 그리고 단 하나의 빛이 단 한 권의 펼쳐진 페이지 위에 떨어지는 방식.

물성은 두 가지 요소로만 환원됩니다 - 합판과 우드 스테인. 이 절제는 프로젝트의 주장입니다. 서점은 본질적으로, 책 그 자체의 물성이 시각적 무게를 가져야 하는 방입니다. 합판 파티션은 더 큰 공간 안에 작고 반쯤 닫힌 읽기의 방들을 만들어내고, 우드 스테인 처리된 목재는 방문객의 손이 실제로 닿게 될 표면들을 따뜻하게 합니다. 그 외의 모든 것은 뒤로 물러섭니다.

세가방은 본질적으로 유형학에 관한 프로젝트입니다 - 브랜드와 장식을 벗겨낸 서점이 무엇인지 - 그리고 어디에나 존재하는 형식에 대해 단 하나의 성수동 방 안에서 조용히 경의를 표하는 행위에 관한 프로젝트입니다.
