Studio 122-21 was our first office - a small, pared-down room tucked into a corner of Cheongdam-dong, Seoul. The client was us, and for once we were left to negotiate directly with our own taste.

The material palette is the most experimental we've ever brought into a single project — white concrete, epoxy, stainless steel, brass, copper, punching metal, and linen, layered against each other in deliberately small doses. None of them dominate. Rather than a finished space, the room is meant to function as a laboratory in itself - and that was the intent.

The space is simple. A desk, storage, a place to receive a client, and almost nothing else. The constraint of a small footprint taught us, more than any larger project, how a single well-chosen material can carry several roles at once.

Studio 122-21 is, in the end, a project about ourselves - the small room where we finally settled on the kind of work we wanted to make.

스튜디오 122-21은 우리의 첫 사무실입니다. 서울 청담동 구석에 자리한 군더더기 없는 작은 공간. 우리의 클라이언트는 우리 자신이었고, 우리는 처음으로 우리 취향과 직접 마주해야 했습니다.

물성은 한 프로젝트 안에서 시도해본 것 중 가장 실험적입니다. 화이트 콘크리트, 에폭시, 스테인리스 스틸, 황동, 구리, 펀칭 메탈, 리넨 - 일곱 가지 결을 의도적으로 작은 단위로 겹쳐 두었습니다. 어느 하나도 공간을 압도하지 않습니다. 완성된 공간이라기보다 공간 자체가 실험실로써 작동하는 것, 그것이 공간의 의도입니다.

공간은 단순합니다. 책상, 수납, 손님을 맞을 자리, 그리고 그 외엔 거의 아무것도 없습니다. 작은 면적이라는 제약은, 어떤 큰 프로젝트보다도 한 가지 잘 고른 재료가 여러 역할을 어떻게 받아낼 수 있는지를 우리에게 가르쳐주었습니다.

스튜디오 122-21은 결국 우리 자신에 관한 프로젝트입니다. 우리가 어떤 작업을 하고 싶은지를 비로소 정한, 그 작은 방.
