A table is a composite structure — a stable, weight-bearing frame paired with a usable upper surface. The relationship between the two is what makes a table read as a single object rather than as a frame and a board placed on top.
This study examines that relationship through four materials: terrazzo, copper pipe, plywood, and a structural joint. It looks at how heterogeneous materials can be combined into a structurally stable whole, how the joint mediates between them, and how a contextual reading emerges when materials of different weight, density, and origin are asked to share a single object.
