Superimpose is a 2017 exhibition at R.cafe in London — four works that lay the concept of a bathroom over the space of a cafe. Each work takes a single bathroom fixture as its starting point and rebuilds it through a different conceptual operation, so the bathroom never quite arrives. It sits, instead, as a thin layer over the room.
The shower is a sheet of curved metal suspended from above, holding a row of dichroic film pipes whose weight bends the metal into a steady arc. The piece holds itself by gravity and elasticity alone, and the pipes themselves stand in for water — color and reflection rather than liquid.
The bookshelf is a composite of seven non-linear three-dimensional objects, reading together as twenty-one dimensions in a single form. It is a bookshelf only in name; its function is to hold an idea about how dimensions accumulate inside one object.
The bathtub flattens its subject. A three-dimensional bathtub and the water it holds are translated into a two-dimensional plane and reconstructed as a painting — the bathing space rendered as image rather than vessel.
The urinal performs the simplest operation: a bathroom object placed where a bathroom object does not belong. The dissonance is the work.
슈퍼임포스는 2017년 런던 R.cafe에서 진행된 전시입니다. 카페의 공간 위에 욕실의 개념을 덧입히는 네 개의 작업으로 이루어져 있고, 각각은 욕실의 한 가지 사물을 출발점으로 삼아 서로 다른 개념적 조작을 통해 재구성됩니다. 그 결과 욕실은 끝내 도착하지 않고, 카페 위에 한 겹의 얇은 층으로 놓입니다.샤워기는 위에서 매달린 굽은 철판입니다. 철판에 걸린 다이크로익 필름 파이프들의 무게가 철판을 일정한 곡선으로 휘게 만들고, 작업은 중력과 탄성의 균형만으로 그 자세를 유지합니다. 파이프 자체는 물을 대신합니다 — 액체가 아니라 색과 반사로서의 물.
책장은 일곱 개의 비선형 3차원 오브젝트가 결합된 형태입니다. 합쳐 읽으면 하나의 사물 안에 21차원이 동시에 자리하게 되고, 책장이라는 이름은 명목일 뿐 — 이 작업이 담는 것은 하나의 사물 안에서 차원이 어떻게 누적되는가에 관한 사고입니다.
욕조는 자신의 주제를 평면으로 압축합니다. 3차원의 욕조와 그 안의 물을 2차원의 평면으로 이미지화하고, 다시 페인팅으로 재구성합니다. 목욕이라는 공간이 그릇이 아닌 이미지로 옮겨지는 작업입니다.
소변기는 가장 단순한 조작을 수행합니다. 욕실에 놓여야 할 사물을 욕실이 아닌 자리에 박아둠으로써 인지적 부조화를 유발합니다. 그 부조화가 곧 작업입니다.
