Tangbisil Coffeework

Tangbisil Coffeework reinterprets the modest Korean office pantry — the "tangbisil" — as a small in-house café within Yeoksam, the heart of Seoul's corporate district. Within just 40 sqm, the project translates the boundary between work and pause into a tactile spatial experience, where the act of stepping away from the desk becomes a deliberate moment rather than a passing routine.

The material palette pairs the rawness of exposed concrete with the warmth of wood and the precision of stainless steel. Concrete grounds the space in the architecture of the office building itself; wood loosens the formality, lending a domestic ease; stainless steel anchors the discipline of the bar. Together, they construct an atmosphere that feels neither fully workplace nor fully café — but something in between, a small interval of calm carved into the working day.

The bar is positioned as the social center of the space, scaled for short, casual exchanges between colleagues. Lighting is restrained, falling softly across the counter to draw attention to the cup rather than the architecture. Tangbisil Coffeework is, in essence, a project about the value of small pauses — and the spatial care required to make them feel intentional.

탕비실 커피워크는 한국 사무실의 가장 작은 공간인 '탕비실'을 카페로 재해석한 프로젝트입니다. 서울의 대표적 오피스 권역인 역삼동의 작은 공간 안에서 일과 잠깐의 멈춤 사이의 경계를 물성적 경험으로 번역하였고, 책상에서 벗어나는 그 짧은 행위가 일상의 흐름이 아닌 의도된 순간이 되도록 디자인하였습니다.

물성은 노출 콘크리트의 거친 질감, 우드의 따뜻함, 스테인리스 스틸의 정밀함을 함께 엮어냅니다. 콘크리트는 사무실 건물 자체의 골격을 공간 안으로 끌어들이고, 우드는 사무 공간의 격식을 풀어내며 가정적 편안함을 더합니다. 스테인리스 스틸은 바의 절제된 기율을 잡아주며, 이 세 자재가 함께 만들어내는 공기는 사무실도 카페도 아닌, 그 사이 어딘가 — 업무의 하루 안에 새겨진 작은 평온의 간격을 구성합니다.

바는 공간의 사회적 중심으로 자리잡아, 정밀하게 큐레이팅된 커피를 매체로 한, 짧고 캐주얼한 교류가 이루어지는 장소로 설계되었습니다. 조명은 절제된 톤으로 카운터 위에 부드럽게 떨어져, 시선이 건축이 아닌 컵 위에 머물도록 유도합니다. 탕비실 커피워크는 결국 작은 멈춤의 가치 — 그리고 그것이 의도되었다고 느끼게 하는 공간적 배려에 관한 프로젝트입니다.
